A huge fashion trend for this spring is the 1970s look, it’s time to ditch your skinny jeans for a pair of flares and swap your killer heels for some cork wedge heeled sandals. The look can be interpreted in two ways, one being a sophisticated and glamorous look that works well for evening wear – think Studio 54 and don a silk jumpsuit, high waisted, wide legged trousers, pussy bow blouse or a shimmering and sheer floaty dress. The boho 70s look incorporates smocked tops, peasant blouses and items made from popular 70s fabrics like crochet and macramé and is easy to wear during the day.
The biker girl look is popular for the spring as is the punk look and these two trends seem to have some level of crossover when it comes to items you’ll find in the high street stores. Leather jackets with quilted leather features are popular and details such as studs, zips, buckles and safety pins were seen on jackets, t-shirts and trousers. Biker boots will be very popular this spring also. The look is tailored and sleek however, as opposed to a full-on grungy, biker look.
If the biker/punk look horrifies you then do not worry – the catwalks for this season saw a return to an ultra-feminine look. Dresses inspired by the 1950s and 1960s will be popular in candy or pastel colors and delicate prints. You can choose from full circle skirts and dresses to tight fitting pencil style dresses that accentuate the feminine form. Finish the look off with a pair of kitten heel sandals and you will have ladylike chic down to a tee.
The perennial favorite stripes are back once again for the spring but this is a fresh look which almost always looks good. The nautical stripe is the most popular with lots of blue and white and navy and white seen on the catwalks. Other prints that are popular for this spring include florals and animal prints.
Playsuits and jumpsuits are back once again for the spring with the longer legged jumpsuit fitting in well with the 1970s trend. Playsuits are cute and youthful and come in all lengths from the short to very short! These look good paired with flat sandals and can be worn with tights underneath during the cooler months of spring. Jumpsuits are great for the evening and look ultra glamorous when teamed with a pair of killer high heels. Jumpsuits that taper into harem pants give a bold and exotic glamorous evening look.
For those who don’t fancy the wide legged trousers and 70s style flared jeans slim fitting Capri pants are also a big trend for this spring and summer. Cropped trousers this season are not necessarily skin tight and some sit just above the ankle with others cropped just below the knee in the more traditional three quarter length Capri style.
