Learning to clean engineered hardwood flooring is essential to protect and maintain your beautiful investment. Since dirt and grime can not hide on wood floors like carpet, cleaning your floors may seem “very expensive”. However, once you have established your own routine, the best way to clean the hardwood floors will not be difficult.
Dust / sweep
Giving your flooring good dusting with a reusable microfiber pad or a disposable dusting cloth will be your best daily defense against scratches and surface damage. Microfiber cleaning pads often use static electricity to trap dirt, particles and other household allergens. The use of a broom can also be effective, but the use of a broom only pushes the earth instead of trapping it. When cleaning your floors without damaging them, avoid lifting your microfiber mop from the floor when cleaning, this way you keep dirt stuck on the pad.
Empty / mop
Vacuums and wet mops are ideal for removing dirt from rough spots such as corners and crevices. However, the use of vacuum cleaners and mops is especially careful when you want to clean the floors without damaging them. If your vacuum cleaner has a threshing bar, make sure it does not scratch the flooring. In addition, vacuum wheels can damage the floor. When using a mop, remember that too much water and wood do not mix! Avoid putting excess liquid on your floor and, instead, lightly spray your floor with a sprayable flooring cleaner.
Although it is generally better to trust your grandmother’s advice; however, hardwood flooring care may be the exception to this rule.
Avoid using water and vinegar, soap-based cleaners, wax or steam cleaners on your waterproof hardwood flooring. Since vinegar is an acid, a solution of vinegar and water will soften the finish of your floor over time, while soap and wax will leave residue accumulating over time. Steam cleaners put excessive heat and water on your floor, which can cause suckers and long-term damage.
